Manny Pacquiao showed the world that indeed he is the number one pound for pound fighter in the whole world by turning the dream match into a nightmare for his rival Oscar de la Hoya. The match lasted for eight action packed rounds with Pacquiao living up to his name "The Pac Man" by eating Oscar de la Hoya alive in the ring in every round. The bout ended with Oscar de la Hoya's team raising the white flag just before the start of the ninth round.
The match started with Manny Pacquiao showcasing his speed at the onset. Manny can easily connect with his jabs followed by a side step. Oscar on the other hand is trying to take advantage of his reach but is easily dissolved by the Pac Man's speed. Round one was a prelude of what will happen for the next rounds. The smaller and the faster Pacquiao dominating the taller and bigger de la Hoya.
Round two, three, and four are more like a mirrors of the preceding round. Oscar cannot quite figure out how not to be hit by the lightning speed punches of Manny. Although Oscar once in a while connects with a jab, its frequency is not enough to effect damage to the younger opponent.
Round five showcases the inevitable. At this time, the constant beating taken by Oscar de la Hoya is taking its toll. The big guy cannot seem to avoid the punches still and a knock out is almost pending. The golden boy lost its luster as he falls prey to the rapid combinations of the pac-man.
At round eight, the beating seems to be too much. The golden boy almost never throw any punches anymore. Rapid combinations storm his face without any resistance. De la Hoya's left eye is a testimony of pain as it swells because of the beating. Its like Manny is an executioner taking his own time and pace on when to slay his victim. Oscar survived round eight with so much damage that his feet are buckled.
Before the start of round nine, Oscar's ring side finally decided it is enough. They surrendered with a white flag and heads up high. Is this the end of the golden years of the golden boy?
